Visiting Vietnam in January
The weather is dry and temperature is pleasant throughout most of the country at this time of a year. Phu Quoc Island baths in sunshine all day long, with highs of 86°F that is the best time to enjoy a beach holiday here. Mekong Delta and Red River greet their peak season.
However, in the meanwhile, temperature can drop dramatically in Northern Vietnam especially in Sapa where temperatures can drop to a cold 41°F and sometimes snow pays her visit to this area, if you meet her during your hiking, you will be very lucky as the scenery is hard to see. During this time of year, the air can easily get misty, especially in Halong Bay, so the best views may not be guaranteed.
Visiting Vietnam in February
From February on, the cold morning gradually disappear in Northern Vietnam and hot dry weather is coming throughout the most part of the country. Some mountain area in the north remains exception that it is still cold.
Events & Festivals
- The grandest festival – TET (Vietnamese Lunar New Year) usually comes in early February or late January. The date varies depending on the lunar calendar. Travel during this period you will see a lot of free celebrations, with traditional shows and performance in the street however at this time, many restaurants, shops and museums shut for the holiday.
Visiting Vietnam in March
From March on, weather turns to best period of a year in majority part of Vietnam which means March is the peak season for travelling to the country. Beach lovers have much more better choices: Mui Ne, Nha Trang and Con Dao are getting more and more good weather. Hoi An, a small coastal town, is a feasible beach destination in the mean while you can enjoy the distinct exotic culture.
Visiting Vietnam in April
Time turns to April, great weather is expected in everywhere of Vietnam, which also means more crowds can be seen. The weather in northern Vietnam is very pleasant with the average temperature around 77°F which is the ideal weather for hiking around Sapa and Ha Giang, where you can walk through the terraced fields and visit the traditional minority villages of Dao and H’mong.
Beach lovers still have a lot of choice. The average temperature in central Vietnam is around 82°F and that is slightly higher in the south where the chance of rain is greater.

Visiting Vietnam in May
From May on, the rainy season starts in northern and southern Vietnam. Rain should hold off, and you may meet some odd shower in the middle of the afternoon towards the end of the month no matter you are in northern or southern regions. The temperatures are climbing up and reaching between 82°F and 86°F.
During this period, most of central region enjoys nice and sunny days, although there’s some rainfall in Central Highlands and Dalat.
May offers a brilliant opportunity for you to miss crowds and high prices of April.
Visiting Vietnam in June
In June, the Northern and Southern Vietnam enter the rainy season, so the best place to go this time is the central Vietnam, where is full of sunshine with very little rain. As a lovely seaside town, Hoi An is an excellent choice.
In the north of country, occasional storms and regular rainfall are ordinary fare and the temperatures are around 86°F or even higher, so trekking is no longer an option, not only in the mountains.
It rains every day in the south in June, but it lasts not very long.
June is a low-season which is a perfect time to bargain before the school holidays begin next month.
Visiting Vietnam in July
When northern and southern Vietnam experiences some showers, especially Hanoi and Halong Bay, the central Vietnam enjoys sunshine with little rain. The beaches like Hoi An, Da Nang are still the pleasant places to spend your holiday. However, the Central Highlands and Dalat should be avoided due to the higher volume of rain.
Visiting Vietnam in August
Temperatures of all around the country in August are high, no matter where you go. However, the best place to visit at this time of a year is still Central Vietnam although the rest of the country is still worth visiting if you do not mid a few showers.
August is the low season of Vietnam; hotels offer great promotions but international flight tickets are more expensive due to the school holidays.
Con Dao Island is another place worth visiting. When you to the coastline, you have chance to see sea turtles hatching and making their way to the ocean.
Visiting Vietnam in September
September is not ideal time to travel to Vietnam. The north and south are always very wet during this time of year although hotels offer very good discount and the rain slowly to start to reduce till the end of the month.
Central coast grasps the last of sun in September before the rains come more and more frequent. Temperatures begin to drop to suitable range at between 77°F to 82°F and storms are far easier to occur.
Visiting Vietnam in October
When sunshine gradually comes back to northern Vietnam in October, this is a wonderful time to trek in Sapa or venture the off the beaten track in Ha Giang. However, it isn’t the best time for a beach vacation because rainy season in those area. As Vietnam has so much to offer and travelling in October means you meet fewer crowds. Visit Vietnam in October is a not bad choice.
Visiting Vietnam in November
When time comes to November, it means high season begins again and a large number of travelers flock to Vietnam. The majority part of the country will be hot and dry towards the end of November. It is the ideal time with a very pleasant temperature of 75°F in the north of Vietnam before the colder winter months come. The weather in central Vietnam is not very pleasant with some heavy showers at this time. The drop in humidity with sun shines all day means the weather is far more comfortable in south of Vietnam.
Visiting Vietnam in December
While the central part of the country still experiences the rainy season, the rest of Vietnam experience hot and dry. It is time to enjoy your beach holiday in Phu Quoc. Christmas period would be the busiest season in Vietnam so we advise traveling before the period to avoid the crowds and the highest price of everything.
